We are happy to welcome back author Karen Dybis to the Warren Public Library! Karen is a metro Detroit writer who has blogged for Time magazine, worked the business desk at the Detroit News, and written for many other publications. Born in Bad Axe and raised in Romeo, she is the author of several books about Detroit, including Secret Detroit: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure,  Better Made in Michigan: The Salty Story of Detroit’s Best Chip, and The Witch of Delray: Rose Veres & Detroit’s Infamous 1930s Murder Mystery.

Ms. Dybis will be at the Civic Center Library to discuss her newest book, Detroit Style Pizza: A Doughtown History which answers the question: How did this Motor City delicacy transform from a singular kitchen in Detroit to an international sensation? If you love Buddy’s, Loui’s, Cloverleaf, or the many others making this style of pie, this is a program you will not want to miss!

Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Registration is required. Register here or call 586.751.0770.

The Warren Public Library is a proud partner in the Yiddish Book Center’s “Stories of Exile” Reading Groups for Public Libraries project. We will hold a series of book discussions and events that explore themes of dispossession, immigration, diaspora, the refugee experience, and home. Visit the Civic Center Library circulation desk to check out a copy of In the Land of the Postscript by Chava Rosenfarb. There will be a guest presenter from the Zekelman Holocaust Center who will give further context to the stories we read, as well as information about post-war, Jewish life in metro Detroit.

Register online or call 586.751.0770.
