FlashFiction

Join us as we again welcome Gloria Nixon-John, author and teacher, to the Civic Center Library. During this workshop, Ms. Nixon-John will discuss what flash fiction is, why flash fiction is catching on, why it is a worthwhile form that challenges the writer as well as amuses the reader, and publishing opportunities for flash fiction.

Ms. Nixon-John will show you how to create flash fiction from bits of what you already have, or from scratch. This workshop is for beginners as well as seasoned writers. It will delve into both the structure and craft of flash fiction. Poets, essayists, memoirists, fiction, and non-fiction writers alike will benefit from this workshop.

Gloria Nixon-John returns to the Warren Public Library to present another writing workshop. This time, she will discuss memoir writing as a vehicle for personal growth and guide participants to craft their life stories for posterity. She will share excerpts from her own memoir and the memoirs of other authors.

Gloria Nixon-John, Ph.D. has published poetry, fiction, nonfiction and academic articles.

This program will be held in the conference room next to the Civic Center Library. Beginning and advanced writers, ages 18 and over, are encouraged to register. To register, please call 586.574.4564.

Pen.and.BookAre you finally taking your writing seriously? Do you want to share your writing with others? If so, consider joining the Civic Center Library’s writing group.

Author, editor, and writing consultant Dr. Gloria Nixon-John will lead the group. Participants will share and respond to individual pieces of writing in a non-threatening, constructive way. This group is for writers 18 years of age or older, writing in any genre.

The group is limited to 12 people. Interested writers are asked to submit one poem or one page of prose in order to be invited to your group. Please bring in or email your writing sample and a cover page with your name, address, phone, and email address to Kathy Faba at the Warren Civic Center Library. Samples will be accepted through Friday, August 16, 2013. Writing group sessions will start sometime in September.

If so, consider attending the creative writing workshop “Making Fiction Real by Stretching Our Senses”, lead by author and teacher Gloria Nixon-John on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the conference room next to the Civic Center Library.

Ms. Nixon-John holds a  Ph.D. in English from Michigan State University and is the author of the true story The Killing Jar as well as other works of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. She is ready to help you become an effective writer.
